The result of the equivalency assessment will be communicated to you in writing, in a so-called notification. This notification will state in which specialist areas you still have deficiencies, for example, internal medicine or surgery. This means that all the hours you were able to document in your records are compared with those of the German training. These missing hours are then listed as deficiencies. Depending on the extent of your deficiencies, there are three possible outcomes.Direct recognition (e.g., based on professional experience) –> No additional adjustments are necessary.Partial recognition/deficit notice –> Deficiencies must be compensated for by an adjustment measure.No recognition/negative decision –> The deficiencies are too high, therefore there is the possibility to complete the entire training in Germany, which usually takes 3 years.For qualifications obtained in third countries (i.e., countries outside the EU), partial recognition or a deficiency assessment is usually issued, and an adaptation measure is proposed. The process takes varying amounts of time in each federal state (approximately 3-10 months). Tip: If you have little to no experience, you can simply waive the equivalence assessment in some federal states and thus expedite the process.
